In a medium bowl combine tomato puree, garlic, sugar, oregano, salt, black pepper, and red pepper flakes. Mix thoroughly.
2 In a 6 quart slow cooker place sliced bell peppers and onions, then top with Italian sausage. Pour tomato mixture on top and stir to coat evenly.
3 Cook on High for 3-4 hours or Low for 6-8 hours. Garnish with basil before serving.
